Technology has revolutionized how we interact with the world, and casinos are no exception. In the not too distant past, if we wanted to play a few games of poker, blackjack or roulette, we would have had to haul our asses to a bricks and mortar casino. Then along came the internet and we were able to play our favorite real money casino games from the comfort of our own homes. Many of us thought things couldn’t get any better but we were wrong.
In June 2007 Steve Jobs unveiled the very first iPhone and everything changed. Before that online casinos had developed basic casino games for old school Nokia and Motorola phones, but the graphics were poor and the slow network speeds ensured these early mobile casinos never really took off. Besides having vastly increased processing power, it was the iPhone’s large touchscreen that revolutionized the mobile gambling industry. For the first time we could now interact with casino games in a way that was simple, fun and intuitive.
Almost overnight millions of Android, iPhone and Blackberry smartphone users began playing cash game casino apps while they commuted to work, sat in meetings or waited at the checkout of the local grocery store. The advent of the Apple iPad, BlackBerry Playbook and Android tablets heralded an era of even more innovation in the world of mobile casino gambling.
The biggest setback to playing real money gambling apps on mobile devices was Apple decision not to allow cash game apps into their iTunes App Store. Google followed suit in 2010 when they banned gambling related apps from the Android Market. It looked for a period that mobile casino players might be prevented from playing casino apps, such as Craps, Sic Bo, Blackjack, European Roulette, Keno, Jacks or Better and Fruit Machine slots from their Android smartphones or tablets.
Thankfully, advances in HTML5 and web apps meant that mobile casino players were not reliant exclusively on the Android Market or App Store for their mobile betting fix. A new generation of mobile casino games emerged that didn’t require an install and could be played from either the iPhone’s Safari Browser or the Chrome browser on an Android smartphone. Web based casino apps are every bit as advanced as their native casino app cousins. They boast the same great graphics and awesome graphics.
As a result, online casinos have been investing heavily in casino apps for Android tablets and smartphones. Almost every week now a new real money gambling app is released for Droids and long may that continue. For a list of the best mobile casino games, please visit our Best Casino
